LOCAL ACTIVITES & ATTRACTIONS

16 MILE CABINS

FISHING

Dease Lake is located on the Stewar-Cassier Highway in Northern British Columbia and is a popular place for travelers to stop for a restful day of fishing.

Dease Lake, Allan Lake and Dease River are popular hot spots for either fly fishing, spin casting or lake trolling.  Catch a variety of different species of fish from our local lakes and rivers.  Including lake trout, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, northen pike, burbot or arctic grayling.

If you would like to relax and stay put close to home then you will enjoy the short walk right from cabins front door directly to the Tanzilla River.  Relax and fish to your hearts content on a quiet secluded river bed for arctic grayling or rainbow trout.

wildlife viewing

Grab a hot cup of coffee and sit back on the front porch and watch our “live” wildlife channel.  We have a local lynx which is seen routinely at the cabins hunting snowshoe hares, mice and voles in the back field.

Timber wolves travel through the property once a month on their hunting circuit.  Moose, Bears, Weasels, Martins and a large assortment of migrating birds are some but not all of the local wildlife to be seen at 16 Mile Cabins.

forest bathing

Embark on a relaxed and rejuvenating nature walk through the backwoods of a northern boreal forest. Discover Forest Bathing and immerse yourself in the healing and revitalizing energies of nature.

Join us in a guided walk around and into the backwoods of 16 Mile Cabins.  Learn skills that will result in feelings of joy and thankfulness, a strengthened immune system, lowered blood pressure all while boosting energy levels.  Observe, touch, taste, smell and listen to the vibrant presence of nature and the ecosystem which brings the forest to life.

It is more than just fresh air!

hot tubbing

Escape into the wild and relish the ritual of chopping wood, lighting the wood stove, disconnecting from your devices and reconnecting with nature as you soak under a blanket of stars.  No gadgets, no bells and whistles.  Just water, firewood and good company.  Its pared down living at its finest.  Rent one during your stay.

fall in love with the north

hiking

Grab a water bottle and head out the door for an exhilarating day of exploration as the north is abundant with trails to explore. Parts of the historic telegraph trail still exists around 16 Mile for your day or evening hikes. Guided hikes available upon request.

snowmobiling & skiing

Get out with family and friends for a great day of snowmobiling or cross country skiing in our great northern town. Gnat pass is not only a great place to paddle in the summer, it is a great place to cross country ski and snowmobile in the winter. Beauty is everywhere you look in the north.

stikine museum

The Stikine Museum is located in the historic downtown part of Telegraph Creek, only an hour and a half drive from 16 Mile Cabins. Check out this beautiful historical gold rush museum. Admission is by donation

northern lights

There are few things in this world that are as awe inspiring as seeing the Northern Lights. Get away from the light pollution and come view our Northern Lights. Best viewing times are in the fall and winter seasons. They should definitely be on everyone’s bucket list.

boating & paddling

Dease Lake and area boasts many abundant crystal clear lakes and rivers full of fish and wildlife. Boya Lake is my all time favourite lake to paddle because of the glacier blue/violet coloured water and the close proximetry you can get to the local wildlife. Can't beat paddling right up to an active beaver dam and watching the young play.

Stikine Canyon

If you have come this far we would recommend a drive to our Grand Canyon of the Stikine. This might just be one of the most memorable scenic drives you will encounter.
